About Feather Boas
Feather boas are commonly made of ostrich, chandelle, marabou, and coque. Both chandelle and marabou boas are types of turkey feathers while the coque boas are made from chicken feathers. Boas involve an enormous amount of hand labor. They are stripped by hand, sorted by hand into different grades, colored, and then sewn onto strings to form strands of feathers called plies.
Our boas come in two yard lengths which is the standard length for all boas. The weights given below are based on a two yard length.
Ostrich Feather Boas - These are made from the larger feathers of the ostrich. They are the most expensive boas and are made of two or more plies. Our ostrich boas have a weight of 55 grams (about 2 ounces).
Chandelle Feather Boas - Made from turkey feathers, the chandelle boas are less expensive than the ostrich boas. They are made from the larger turkey feathers. Chandelle boas vary by weight ranging starting from 40 grams (about 1 1/2 ounces). Our chandelle boas are 120 grams (about 4 1/4 ounces).
Marabou Feather Boas - These are made from the smaller turkey feathers that are very fine and less expensive than the larger feathers used to make the chandelle boas. Marabou boas vary by weight starting from as little as 14 grams (about 1/2 ounce). We are not carrying marabou boas on our web site at this time.
Coque Feather Boas - These boas are made from chicken saddle/hackle feathers. They are quite inexpensive. We do not have coque feather boas.
