Measure Window

At top of window, measure the inside window width. Now measure from the top of the inside window to the desired finished length of the fabric panel.

Cutting Mounting Board, Fabric, and Trim

Cut mounting board 1/4" shorter than the inside width of the window. For the fabric panel, add 2" to the width; add 12" to the length. Cut a piece of fabric to these measurements. For the center cinching band, cut a 5" wide strip of fabric the same length as your fabric panel plus 3". Cut two pieces of trim the same length.

Assembling Fabric Panel

Hem the bottom and sides of the fabric panel. Press band fabric in half lengthwise and glue trim to the long edges of the band, covering the raw edges. Staple the top of the fabric panel to one of the 2" sides of your mounting board. Center and staple band over fabric panel. Allowing fabric to hang in front of board, screw mounting board into window opening with 2" side flat against top of window frame. Take band under and behind fabric panel. Use thumbtacks to secure band to bottom of board. Adjust folds of fabric panel as desired.

For a different look, instead of using a single fabric band in the center, use two purchased tiebacks evenly spaced along the width of your window.
