What is Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology?

SSL is the technology and software that encrypts or scrambles any information sent from the customer's browser to the server denverfabrics.com is connected to, making it impossible to intercept or steal the information on the way.

Secure Socket Layer technology is state of the art and is upgraded and tested often.

How can I tell a site is authenticated?

Thawte issues a certificate. Each time a secure page is submitted over the Internet, the certificate is verified and then encrypted using SSL technology. To verify certification look for the Thawte logo.

Each time the certificate logo is displayed on the site program, software verifies the current status of the certificate holder. You will not see the logo unless the certificate is in good standing.

How can I tell information I am sending is encrypted?

The browser that the customer uses determines how to tell if information on a page is encrypted. In most browsers, and in AOL, you can right click on a page then select either "Properties" (Internet Explorer) or "View Page" (Netscape) from the drop down menu. You will see information about the connection and see either the words "encoding" or "encrypted."

The amount of information you are provided about the encryption is dictated by the customer's browser.

How can I tell a site uses SSL technology?

Not every page in a web site such as ours needs SSL protection. When a customer reaches a secure area of the denverfabrics.com store, the code preceding the www in the URL changes from http:// to https://. The "s" designates security.

In addition, some browsers such as Internet Explorer display a lock representing protected pages. These are frequently displayed in the menu bar at the bottom of the screen.

How does denverfabrics.com provide security for its customers?

We have obtained Thawte's Web Server Certificate so that information submitted by our customers will not be intercepted while in transit and to provide evidence that we are a verifiable, real-world organization.

When does denverfabrics.com start providing security?

Information is protected from the time the order page is opened until the information reaches our fulfillment center. ALL information is encrypted using SSL technology.

What is the track record for denverfabrics.com?

Denver Fabrics has been in business over 20 years. denverfabrics.com has been online for over 3 years. We have yet to have any of our sensitive customer information hacked or stolen.

What is identity authentication?

Identity authentication establishes the identity of the company conducting business over the Internet. Before issuing a certificate, Thawte confirms that the company really exists, that the company has the right to use the domain name of the web site, and confirms that the person requesting the certification has permission to do so on behalf of the organization. In other words, the company is not an impostor. It is real.

What is encryption?

Think of encryption as a lock that requires one key to close the lock and another key to open the lock.

Using one key, encryption changes the information sent from the customer's browser to something that appears random. It becomes noise, garbage, and worthless. Only the intended recipient, denverfabrics.com, has the private key to recover the information and return it to a usable form.
